"I'm done" by Glenda

Late last night I finished my jacket.  I  wore it to a Board Luncheon today at the Reaidng Country Club and got lots of compliments.  I was able to solve my dilemma with the growing length by using the fabric that I made the cording from for a facing at the bottom of the hem and sleeve.

Due to the thickness of this fabric,  I did all my quilting by hand on the seam allowances.  I am please with the end results.  Did get a bit frustrated along the way and had to put it down for a while. 

I sewed the chain along the bottom with a simple stitch and tack about every 2nd chain.

One thing I discovered while working on this jacket is that my little dogs like to lay on the jacket.  I believe this might have

been part of why it took me longer than I anticipated to complete. 

I am just glad the only wanted to lay on it and not chase the jacket around or play with it.

Glenda's Jacket

This weekend I have been working on my Chanel Jacket.  This jacket has gone together beautifully.  I spent a great deal of time matching plaids as I cut.  I have no idea what the fiber content is of the fabric I am using.  I have become suspicious that it might be Alpaca or Lama.  It has grown about 2 inches in length and now the lining does not fit.  Now I have an interesting dilemma.

Chanel, Chanel, Chanel

I've been working on my Chanel jacket every few days and to be quite honest, if it weren't for this sew-along, I would have scrapped it a long time ago.  I guess that's what good about sew-alongs!!  A person doesn't want to be a party pooper!  Why scrap?  Well, I normally work on one item at a time and this project is so time consuming that I haven't been able to stay with it until completion.   The fabric is very  floppy - and I hate working with those wide seam allowances.  All this being said, it's starting to look like a chanel jacket.  I'm doing the shortcut version as shown in Threads #128 and hope to post a picture soon.  Today I worked on the sleeves and should be able to finish them during my next session.  Then I'll insert them into the jacket and start the hand sewing (attaching braid, inserting chain at hemline, etc.).  If my projections are correct, it should take me about 10 more hours to finish.  Wish me luck!
